24 April-4 June 2023
On the occasion of its 10-year anniversary, the Geneva Peace Week will take place from 30 October to 3 November 2023 at the Maison de la Paix in Geneva, Switzerland.
Organisations have the opportunity to participate in the GPW either as Event Organisers or by contributing to the Digital Series on the Thematic Tracks available here.
Participation in the Geneva Peace Week is free of charge. The language of instruction is English. Applicants are reminded that the Geneva Peace Week is a non-promotional forum. As it is not a political platform, sessions are not allowed to serve the exclusive promotion of a specific organisation or a specific project.
Please pay careful attention to the information below regarding formats and responsibilities to participate in GPW.
The GPW consortium will select around 18 sessions that will feature in the GPW23 programme. Partners can organise on-site events on topics identified in the 3 Thematic Tracks. Events can be 1 of the 2 following formats: Policy Briefings or Workshops.
Policy briefings are held in-person, in Geneva, with a maximum of 140 participants in the room and the possibility for a non-Geneva-based audience to follow the discussion remotely via Zoom. They last about 90 minutes. Policy briefings are designed to bring together multiple experts and/or stakeholders to both explore a specific topic and engage in lively discourse to share their perspectives and provide the audience with a rich and informative experience. Organisers should seek to include and engage with the audience through Q&A sessions or other participatory means. Please consult the technical sheet available here for more detailed information on the setup.
Workshops are held exclusively in person, in Geneva, with a maximum of 40 participants. They last about 90 minutes. Workshops are practitioner-led and facilitated with a high degree of interactivity in group work, aimed at offering participants the opportunity to gain, exchange, and share knowledge, good practices, and peacebuilding skills. Inputs from speakers should not constitute more than 30% of the session time. Please consult the technical sheet available here for more detailed information on the setup.
The Geneva Peace Week team secures spaces in the Maison de la Paix Campus and handles logistical aspects including room setup, cleaning and the technical requirements for live streaming. The GPW team is also responsible for the programme, the registration of participants, and the general promotion of the forum as a whole.
Conversely, organisers are responsible for covering visa, travel and accommodation costs of their speakers and staff where applicable, costs related to interpretation (which is an optional feature) and for promoting their own events on social media. Organisers must also provide human resources to ensure on-site and online moderation, as well as note-taking to provide detailed feedback on their respective sessions to the GPW team. This feedback will be used in the reporting of the event.
The Digital Series will showcase peacebuilding expertise, research and stories in short, educational, digital formats. The Series will be broadcasted on the GPW website as well as on major streaming platforms such as YouTube and Spotify, . They offer an opportunity for contributions to continue beyond the Geneva Peace Week, reaching audiences across geographical, cultural and temporal borders.
A produced video, similar to a produced podcast, is an edited video compilation. Instead of one continuous shot or conversation, a produced video cuts different shots, stories and/or conversations together into one video. These videos range from 5 minutes to 15 minutes and tell a specific story or argument. A documentary is a more complex video production that should be 30-60 minutes long. They clearly explain a subject, reveal new information or substantiate an argument. Please note that recorded panel discussions are no longer accepted. You can consult a few examples of the Digital Series contributions here.
Podcasts are similar to interviews broadcasted on the radio, except that they are played from websites instead of on a radio station. A podcast interview recording can be with one or multiple interviewees, and should last no longer than 15 minutes. Partners also have the possibility to submit episodes that piece together multiple audio sources, ideally with music or background audio tracks. While a podcast interview is one single, continuous conversation, produced episodes are often narrated and have a number of different conversations edited together. You can consult a few examples of the Digital Series contributions here.
